New date set for Alex Northrand LFA polls
ALEXANDRA – Khumalo announces a new poll date for the Alex Northrand Local Football Association elections.
Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association (ANLFA) will now go to the polls on March 13.
Alex Northrand LFA secretary general Malvin Khumalo said the change of date from February 27 to March 13 has been neccessitated by delays experienced in the nomination process.
He said the mother body, the South African Football Association (Safa) had indicated they would forward a drop-off point for the nomination forms which have been handed over to the clubs as opposed to giving them directly to the LFA as was the practice before.
This, Khumalo said, has interfered with the timelines of the process as nominations had been given to clubs who were supposed to complete them two weeks prior to the election date.
This delay then necessitated the change of date of the LFA elections. He said the 14 days allowed for the auditors to check and verify that all candidates who were standing for election were in good
standing with the LFA.
“This is the most critical part of the entire election process and it has to be allowed to carefully run its course and cannot be tampered with, hence we had to move the date of the polls to March 13,” he said.
While conceding to the delay in the process, Khumalo pointed out that the clubs had been handed the nomination forms in good time.
Khumalo said Safa had then stepped in to control the process around the drop-off of the nomination forms as the mother body did not want a situation where the LFA could possibly interfere.
Khumalo said the new date will still be within the time frames of the mother body’s guidelines that all LFAs must complete their electoral process by no later than April. This allows regions and provincial structures to also conduct their polls before Safa elections.
