Rugby fans urged to select their Champion Team

The Italians are coming to South Africa for this year’s instalment of the Carling Champions Match.

Voting has opened for rugby fans to choose their favourite players from the crop of players plying their trade in the current Carling Currie Cup franchises.

The innovation, which was started last season, allows rugby fans to select their favourite players to participate in an invitational Carling Champions Match select side that will play against a European outfit from Italy known as Italia Emergenti.

The spectacle will see fans from across all unions backing their heroes as they take centre stage against an international opposition set to take place on July 2 at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium at 19:00 kick-off.

Carling Black Label brand director Arné Rust said now everyone has the opportunity of choosing their favourite players to see them on the field, and in action, not in the Green and Gold of the Springboks but in Black and Gold of Carling Black Label beer.

“We are proud to enable local rugby supporters and fans of Carling Currie Cup to choose their Carling Champion Team, allowing them to basically make their ‘fantasy team’ dreams come true,” Rust told Alex News at the launch of the coming match.

Supporters of the Vodacom Bulls, Cell C Sharks, Sigma Lions, DHL Western Province, Toyota Cheetahs, Windhoek Draught Griquas and the Airlink Pumas can vote for the players they would like to see play for the Carling Champion Team.

In this year’s edition of the champions match, fans have been further empowered by not only voting for their favourite starting 15, but will also get the chance to vote for their favourite coach who will lead the Carling Champions Team on match day. Choose your champion team by voting through USSD, voting on Facebook Messenger or via the Carling Currie Cup website.
