Girls’ rugby takes root as Alex Wolves Rugby Club players are selected for Inter-Provincial Team games.

Five talented young girl rugby players from the Alex Wolves Rugby Club were selected from a tournament at the Krugersdorp Hoerskool to join Inter-Provincial Teams’ games under the banner of the Golden Lions rugby side.

Five young and talented girls from Alexandra that ply their rugby trade in the Alex Wolves Rugby Club’s U16 team have been selected to play for the Golden Lions at inter-provincials following trials in early September at the Krugersdorp Hoerskool.

According to the founder and president of the Wolves club Elias Mpengu the girls will play in the tournament on a date and venue yet to be announced by Golden Lions Youth Rugby.

“I am delighted to see girls’ rugby taking root in Alex and as these girls continue to make inroads in the rugby game, this will trigger more interest from other girls as well who will see the opportunity to make a career for themselves in the game of rugby,” Mpengu said.

The selected girls are Aphile Ngema from Minerva High School; Khanyisile Nkweba and Patience Dikotla both from KwaBhekilanga High School; Nomvula Ndlovu from Realogile High School; and Ayanda Sethi from Sandtonview High School.
