Alex Black Poison’s U15 defeated Amavulavala FC 14-1 in an Alexandra North Local Football Association (ANLFA) U15 league fixture at Altrec Sports Complex on Sunday.

From the onset, Black Poison controlled the game, despite a shaky opening that saw them concede a goal inside the first few minutes of the match. This was after they gifted Amavulavala a penalty after a foul inside the box.

From there, it was one-way traffic. Black Poison seized control in midfield and never relinquished it, dominating both halves and piling on the goals in relentless fashion leading up to their 14-1 victory.

Coach George Phalandwa said the win was a true reflection of his side’s authority on the day.

“We had the advantage from the onset,” Phalandwa said, reflecting on the performance.

So complete was Black Poison’s dominance that by the closing stages, goalkeeper Thapelo Phokojoe had begun venturing well beyond his penalty area to join the attack, and he scored a goal.

Phalandwa said this happened because his defence was playing its imperative role in avoiding any danger from the Amavulavala strikers.

He added that he was happy to see his goalkeeper be part of the party, given how comfortably his backline was coping.

Black Poison spent much of the match camped in Amavulavala’s half, starving their opponents of possession and any real sight of goal.

While the result was built on goals, one of the standout performers on the day did not find the back of the net. Midfielder Botlhale Kgokane, who Phalandwa revealed is young enough to still be playing at U13 level, drew praise for his composure and generosity on the ball against opponents mostly older than him.

“He’s also young enough to be in the U13s, and today he did well. That’s why everyone was calling his name, regardless of him not scoring,” Phalandwa said.

According to the coach, Kgokane’s hunger for a goal of his own never got in the way of his distribution, as he repeatedly picked out teammates in dangerous positions; several of those assists were converted, fuelling Black Poison’s scoreline.

Phalandwa said that with a performance like that at both ends of the pitch, he hopes his young side will carry the same intensity and composure into their next ANLFA U15 fixture.
