Multi-talented artist launches CD

ALEXANDRA - Multi-talented artist releases her debut album which will launch sometime in September.

Musician Maphipidi Irene Mafokwane, better known as Phipi, will launch her debut album on 2 September.

Phipi’s album, This man is mine, is a mixture of afro-house and afro-pop. Having written most of the songs on her album, she said she was a lyricist and loved to write. She said, “I love singing and writing but that is also part of my job, I would love to write a book and also write for television dramas.”

The Limpopo born and bred artist’s love for music started in primary school where she used to sing and act. It continued while she was studying a BCom at the University of Limpopo and she would also sing in the church choir. “People will be very shocked when they listen to my music considering that I am a serious churchgoer, but I am a singer,” she said.

Phipi is also an MBA graduate, motivational speaker and businesswoman who is passionate about the issues of unemployment. “I wish people could change their mindsets, because life is not about one going to school and finding a job when they can make things happen for themselves,” said Phipi. She believed that people who think like entrepreneurs would get far in life.

Phipi is from a big family with 10 siblings and is a mother of two. The launch will be at St. Austin College, 650 Louise Botha Avenue, Absa building.
