Gospel star makes a comeback

ALEXANDRA - GOSPEL star makes a come back after 5 years from the music industry.

Gospel artist Phumlani Mgobozi made a comeback after five years away from the music industry with the release of his album, uJesu unamandla.

Mgobozi collaborated with Thulasizwe Mnyandu on a maskandi song on the album which has been well received by Mgobozi’s fans. “Most people say they are blessed by it,” said Mgobozi. He said people would enjoy his latest album more than his previous releases because it was more about the message than entertainment. He said, “I am now a born-again Christian and the message in my music is more powerful.”

Mgobozi released his first album in 2002, Thuma mina and three others thereafter. He started his career by singing in the church choir and has never studied music. “This is a talent that God has given me,” he said. Mgobozi lost his father when he was 18 years old and a song by Rebecca Malope comforted him. He knew then that he was destined to sing gospel.

Mgobozi has performed with the likes of Deborah Fraser and Benjamin Dube. Mgobozi said his aim was “to take the gospel of our Jesus Christ to all corners of the world through music”.
