Joey De Tenor needs your help on his road to stardom

Joey De Tenor believes his rise to stardom in the opera music genre will raise the flag of the iconic township even higher.

Talented Alexandra opera musician Joey Mabusela has been offered a four-year scholarship programme to study for a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts at the AMDA College in Los Angeles in the United States of America.

Joey De Tenor, as he is popularly known in music circles in the township, said the scholarship does not cover his accommodation costs, a return ticket to and from the USA, transport, and pocket money while studying and that he needs to raise to cover those costs.

Mabusela, assisted by the Kula Underground Museum founder and CEO Mary-Ann Marolen-Ramugumo, said plans were afoot to host various fundraising concerts and events at the museum to raise the funds needed.
Without disclosing the amount needed as he and Marolen-Ramugumo, are yet to draft a plan of action and also look into what the required amount would look like for the duration of Mabusela’s study period in the USA.

“I have been admitted and all I need is to raise the funds needed for travel and for my upkeep while studying in the USA.
“I would like to appeal to my fellow brothers and sisters, dads and mothers, and business people in the township and beyond to consider dropping something into the kitty to help me realise my dreams of becoming one of the superstars of this genre of music and also raise the flag of Alexandra high up there,” Mabusela, who turned 31 on February 23, pleaded.

Marolen-Ramugumo said she stands firmly behind Mabusela in his quest to better his life. “If he goes on to become a world star, that does not just benefit him but the entire community of this iconic township that is well-known for its yester-year role in the performing arts in this country,” Marolen-Ramugumo said.
