Jeppe, KES draw 17-17

The game, considered to be an annual show of rugby pride, was complemented with a second half jam-packed with running rugby.

The annual rugby clash between Jeppe High School for Boys and King Edward VII School (KES) resulted in a 17-all draw when the teams met on Jeppe’s home field on July 26.

KES went in as the underdog of the Mutual & Federal Premier Inter-School match after being defeated by the black and white team from Kensington for two consecutive years.

The local team was hoping to record a third consecutive victory in this match considered a highlight on the schools’ rugby calendar.

Both teams had strong defensive lines, with the first try being scored by the home team and successfully converted.

The game, considered to be an annual show of rugby pride, was complemented with a second half jam-packed with running rugby.

The visiting team missed a late penalty closing the score board on 17-all.

The principal of Jeppe, Mr Anton Demsey said; “This traditional match dates back to 1935 and is the highlight of the Golden Lions high school rugby calendar. It is a fixture where passion, pride and commitment to the school you represent comes to the fore, whether you are a player, a supporter or an old boy.”

Mr Demsey thanked all the supporters and sponsors for their continued support in making the game an annual success.
