Victory for Moralee

"Making the SA team is a huge accomplishment for me. I have looked forward to it for a long time," said Cameron Moralee.

Cameron Moralee, the only amateur player to make the 36-hole cut, walked away with the Freddie Tait Cup at the finale of the BMW SA Open Golf championship.

The event was hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni at the Glendower Golf Club.

Junior Cameron Moralee started his golfing journey at the age of 10 and was recently selected to play for the Golf RSA team.

His grandmother, Ms Annette Thwaits, said Cameron belonged to the Kenako Golf Academy for four years while he was away at boarding school in George.

She said he returned in June last year and joined the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation.

“Cameron’s journey has been a steady one. I have seen improvement every time he is on the golf course and he has gone from strength to strength,” said his grandmother, Ms Thwaits. Cameron currently belongs to the Dainfern Golf Estate situated near Fourways.

Cameron said his experience throughout the competition has been amazing. He was also fortunate enough to play alongside professional, international golfers.

“Playing on Sunday was both pleasant and unpleasant because I played poorly on my first eight holes. I then realised how far I have come and what I had achieved,” he said.

He said having played with the pros took off a large amount of pressure.

Cameron said Ernie Els has been a major inspiration to him and others aspiring to be pro golfers.

“I am really happy to have received the opportunity to be part of the event and that I was able to achieve so much. Making the SA team is also a huge accomplishment for me. I have looked forward to it for a long time,” said Cameron.
