Dress for success

The rank of the job you will be doing, will also have an effect on your dress sense.

It is important to recognise the culture of an organisation such as is it formal, trendy or conservative?

Take note of what the people are wearing when you go for your interview. Do not arrive in a power suit if everyone is wearing jeans and similarly, do not arrive in skimpy, tight clothes if everyone appears to be dressed conservatively.

The rank of the job you will be doing, will also have an effect on your dress sense.

Image is often in the small detail. Clean shoes that are not scuffed or need repairing; ironed clothes and above all, clean clothes.

You should feel comfortable in what you are wearing and wear colours that make you feel good. Women should avoid clothes that ride up or show too much flesh.

It is important to be well groomed and avoid aftershaves or perfumes that have strong scents.

Shoes are a personal taste and as mentioned before, they should be clean and well kept. Avoid wearing trainers unless everyone else does. And women should remember that high heels can kill by the end of the day.

Today the trend towards dress is much less formal but remember the rule of thumb, check out the style of dress of the place where you will be working.

You can still retain your individuality while fitting in.
