Chinese man tries to bribe SAPS with R50 000

A Chinese man is facing a string of charges after he tried to bribe Edenvale SAPS head of crime prevention Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

Lt Col Roberts said members of the SAPS assisted by reaction officers from SSG were acting on information received that the man was dealing drugs from his house in Edenglen.

“When we arrived at the house on Friday we found that the man was not only in possession of Crystal Meth he was also running a mini home affairs from his house,” Lt Col Roberts said.

The documentation found at the man’s house included fraudulent passport applications.

The man was also in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The man approached me and said that we could make a plan. When I asked him what he was talking about he said that I should know,” Lt Col Roberts said.

The man then handed Lt Col Roberts R50 000 in cash.

“He was immediately placed under arrest and a charge of bribery was added to the already long list of charges against him,’ Lt Col Roberts said.

The case was handed to members of the SAPS Organised Crime Unit for further investigation.

 

The man is expected to appear in court soon.
