Edenvale Rotary bids farewell to Ted and Alf

The Edenvale Rotary Club will remember July 3 with sadness as the day it lost two celebrated Rotarians.

Rotarian Ted Pope died on July 3 at age 67.

He was inducted as a Rotarian at the Edenvale Rotary Club on May 7, 1979 where he served for 29 years until he moved to Jeffrey’s Bay at the end of 2008.

Rotarian Ted was an active member of Rotary until his death.

He also served as the Rotary District Governor for 2000 and 2001.

Rotarian Ted was involved in many local and international projects, most notably the Book Project, which he organised with his good friend, Mr Charlie Clemens in Texas.

Ted and his wife, Jill, have attended every Rotary International Convention since he became a Rotarian.

The Edenvale Rotary Club conveys its condolences to Jill, her children and grandchildren.

Rotarian Alf Burrows also died on July 3 at age 92.

He was a member of the Edenvale Rotary Club when it was chartered on June 16, 1962.

Together with his good friend, Mr Peter Molenaar, who was also a charter member of the Edenvale Rotary Club, they attended the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Edenvale Rotary Club in June 2012.

Alf, Peter and Archie Kemp Snr started the original Edenvale town newsletter which developed into the Edenvale News which they ran for many years.

Alf and Peter were involved in many projects both locally and internationally while members of Edenvale Rotary Club.

The Edenvale Rotary Club conveys its condolences to Dulcie, Alf’s wife of over 60 years and her family.
