Open space a trouble spot for Betrams residents

A vacant piece of land situated in 45 Gordon Road in Betrams, continues to be a trouble spot for residents.

The EXPRESS previously reported about this problem area in September of 2010.

Long weeds are growing on the land and rats have made the land their home.

Criminals are also taking advantage of the situation as people have been robbed there at night.

The neighbouring Gerald Fitzpatrick House has had to find ways to keep the rats out that wander off into the nursing home.

Youngsters burn tyres there daily and the smoke affects the patients at the home.

“The situation is terrible, people burn things there and that makes us unhappy because we have cancer patients at the home,” said Mrs Merle Howroyd, who manages the Gerald Fitzpatrick House.

“It gets worse during summer because the weeds grow longer,” concluded Mrs Howroyd.

The EXPRESS approached Mr Nthatise Modingoane from the City of Joburg with a request for comment. At the time of going to print no comment had been received.
