Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said officers from the Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested a man for murder in Johannesburg and took him to Jeppe SAPS.
“While they were taking him out of their van in front of the Client Service Centre, a man saw him and called his friend. The friend told police officers that the man they had arrested robbed him of cash on July 6.
“The complainant alleged that he was playing dice at the Madala Hostel when the suspect pointed a firearm at him and robbed him,” said W/O Munyai.
The arrested man was linked to a murder and business robbery that took place in April 2012.
W/O Munyai said a man was in a shop at the George Goch Hostel on April 3, 2012 when the suspect and two friends armed with firearms approached him.
“The suspects pointed their firearms at the man and loaded groceries into bags and fled on foot.
“The man tried to follow them but heard a gunshot and turned back,” said W/O Munyai.
Hours later police officers received information about a body in the George Goch Informal Settlement.
“On their arrival they found the body of Siyabonga Nene (34). He sustained a bullet wound in the neck and was certified dead on the scene. Two empty cartridges were found on the scene,” said W/O Munyai.
