Construction of Yeoville Police Station stops for a day

Construction at the new Yeoville Police Station came to a grinding halt as construction workers protested against the employment of workers from outside the Yeoville area and surrounds.

The new station is to be completed by January 2014 and the construction company claims to be still on track.

The EXPRESS had previously reported on the labour-related problems at the beginning of the project.

The workers continue to express their unhappiness about people from outside the area getting employed for the project. They say the contractor must keep to agreements made as per tender dictates. The upliftment of the local community through job creation is something they expect to see.

“We experienced some labour-related problems but we have spoken to the workers and everything should be back to normal tomorrow,” said Mr Patrick Wisani, who is the site manager.
