Yeoville community commits to fighting crime
The community of Yeoville is ready to work with the police to eradicate crime on their streets, especially in Rocky Street, which is a known haven for criminals.
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety and the Yeoville Police had a road show on July 24, in order to identify crime hotspots in the area.
“During interactions with community members, complaints about lack of police visibility and drugs were cited as the cause to criminal activity in the area,” said Mr Thapelo Moiloa, who is the spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Safety.
Residents stated that there are many prostitutes in the area, which contributes to the prevalence of crime. One of the members of the community said robbers are now using razor blades to cut through their bags or pockets to find money.
The Yeoville Police urged the community to work with the police in order to eradicate crime. “We ask the community of Yeoville to join structures such as the Youth Desk and Patrollers,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.
