Men arrested for ATM robberies

Cleveland SAPS arrested two men in connection with ATM robberies on Monday.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, Cleveland SAPS, said a man went to the ATM at the corner of Queen Street and Langermann Drive in Kensington. “Before he got to the machine he saw a man still busy with it and waited for his turn. The man got his chance and put his card inside to withdraw money but he realised that the machine was not working properly. He removed his card from the machine and the man who was there first returned and insisted on helping him,” said Const Mashakane.

When the man refused help, the suspect started pushing him around demanding his bank card. The suspect got the card. His accomplice was waiting for him in a car.

The man who was robbed screamed for help and before the suspects could speed away, police officers in the area apprehended the men.

“Inside the car police found a number of different bank cards. The cards are believed to belong to people who have been victimised at the ATMs,” said Const Mashakane.
