Assisting moms and tots

The Ruth Pregnancy Crisis Centre in Edenvale aims to assist destitute pregnant women.

The centre was started in 2003 and has since assisted countless women and children.

Even though the centre is only open Monday to Wednesday, from 9am to 12 noon, it assists between 30 and 40 women each month.

The centre can, however, only continue to support women in need with the help of the community.

At any given time, the centre is in need of large blankets and towels, nappies, milk formula and baby clothes.

The centre also helps future moms make informed decisions about their babies.

Services offered by the centre include free pregnancy tests, crisis pregnancy counselling and support, mother and baby aid and post adoption counselling. HIV counselling is also available by appointment.

Counselling is offered during operating times, or by appointment only. Mother and baby aid is given only on the centre’s terms and conditions.

A mother may visit the centre with her baby once per month, or at 28-day minimum intervals.

The centre supplies mothers with milk formula, cereal and toiletries during the once a month visit, but only if these are available. Nappies are only be given out if donations have been received.

Anyone wanting more information can contact the centre on 011 452-6533 Monday’s to Wednesday’s, from 9am to 12 noon only.
