Jeppe girls scoop awards

Jeppe High School for Girls pupils came out as strong contenders in the design field at The Star's Design-An-Ad ceremony at Vodaworld on August 28.

Amy-Leigh Braaf was runner up in the front page cover design category which was only open to grade 12 pupils.

The theme was Freedom of the Press. Her advertisement was printed on the back page of the Design-An-Ad insert in The Star on August 29.

Kayla Gailey, a grade 10 pupil and Edenvale resident, took first place in the grade 10 to 12 section for her advertisement for Sharpie.

Sharpie was so impressed with Kayla’s advertisement that it did not award a second or third place. Her advertisement was also featured in The Star insert.

Miss Dina Goncalves, the headmistress, attended the ceremony with Mrs Leigh-Ann Young, the head of visual art and design. Miss Goncalves, staff, pupils and their families congratulated the girls and Mrs Young on their achievement.

In last year’s competition, Naya Panachande, who was a grade 12 learner at Jeppe High School for Girls, won the front page cover design category.

Naya is studying at Design School SA on the bursary she won in the competition.

Design is offered as an extra matric subject for grade 10 to grade 12 girls.
