The incident occurred at the Shell garage in Doornfontein on September 4.
“Officers were on duty when they received information about someone transporting abalone from a garage in Doornfontein,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the spokesperson for the Jeppe SAPS. On arrival, they found a brown VW with occupants inside.
The officers requested to search the car and found a blue plastic bag full of abalone.
“The suspects were arrested and were taken to the Jeppe SAPS, where the abalone was booked,” said Warrant Officer Munyai.
The suspects will appear in court soon and investigations are continuing.
