The incident occurred on Jules Street in Jeppestown on September 1.
“A 22-year-old man was inside his shop when he saw three armed men pushing his uncle and a security guard inside the shop,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, spokesperson for the Jeppe SAPS.
The suspects pointed a firearm at him and demanded money. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime vouchers and a cellular phone before fleeing the scene. The shop owner called the police and they followed up on information that led to the arrest of one suspect.
“The suspect will appear in court soon and investigations are continuing,” said W/O Munyai.
