
This was revealed by Police Minister Mr Nathi Mthethwa on September 19 when he released the latest crime statistics.
In comparing Bedfordview crime statistics for the period April 2011 to March 2012 and April 2012 to March 2013, crimes like robbery at residential premises, truck hijacking and carjackings increased.
Robbery at residential premises increased from 60 to 69, while truck hijacking jumped from 3 to 11 incidents.
Carjacking increased from 23 to 26 cases. Common robbery increased from 54 to 63 cases. Robbery with aggravating circumstances increased from 227 to 247 cases and theft out of motor vehicle increased from 181 to 244 cases.
Theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles are among the crimes that showed a decrease.
It decreased from 233 to 217 cases. Burglary at non-residential premises moved from 156 to 144 cases. The illegal possession of firearms and ammunition dropped from 20 to 6 cases this year and shoplifting decreased from 457 to 403 cases.
Sexual crimes did not have any change and stayed on 23 cases.
