Dogs trapped in dam
The SPCA received a call from a local dump site employee who said the dogs were stranded in the dam.
The Edenvale SPCA rescued an adult dog and her two puppies from a water storage dam near Chloorkop.
The SPCA received a call from a local dump site employee who said the dogs were stranded in the dam. Edenvale SPCA Inspector, Shirley Meacham, said it took several hours to rescue the dogs which were not used to humans and were terrified.
“There was plastic lining all over the sides of the dam so it was impossible for the dogs to get out. We used leashes to lasso the dogs and pull them out,” she said.
“The water in the dam was run-off from a nearby dump site. It was pitch black,” said Inspector Meacham.
The dogs were euthanised at the request of the SPCA after they underwent a veterinary assessment.
“They were in a bad condition and there was no way they would be able to be homed. This was a last resort,” said Inspector Meacham.
