The men tried to flee when they saw the police, but the swift reactions of the officers led to the arrest of the men.

Four men aged 27 to 30 were arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and stolen goods in Yeoville.

“Police officers received a tip-off about people offloading goods at the corner of Grafton and Webb streets,” said Constable Thabo Malatji of the Yeoville SAPS.

When the police arrived, they found four men offloading cellular phones and household appliances. The men tried to flee when they saw the police, but the swift reactions of the officers led to the arrest of the men.

“Officers found 15 cellular phones, two plasma television sets, two laptops, a music system and clothes,” said Const Malatji. When officers searched one of the suspects they found a firearm and the man failed to produce a license to possess the firearm.

“The suspects were detained at the Yeoville SAPS and are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Const Malatji.
