Cheryl cycles to Durban

Edenvale resident, Cheryl Whelan, recently embarked on a cycle ride from Johannesburg to Durban.

Cheryl has previously not participated in major races like the Cape Argus or Amashova in Durban, but she has competed in several locally based cycling races.

This year, Cheryl decided to cycle the Argus in March and the Amashova in October. As part of the event, she also participated in a cycle tour from Johannesburg to Pietermaritzburg which took three days. After that, she cycled the Amazhova Cycle race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on the fourth day, a total of 586km in the saddle.

The tour started at 6.30am in Vereeniging on October 10, where a group of 26 cyclists from Cycle Escape converged to take on the 180km to Bethlehem. The second day took the group from Bethlehem via Clarens, Golden Gate, Bergville and through to Winterton, another 180km. Day three involved 120km through Escort, Mooi River and the Midlands Meander before ending in Howick. Day four was race-day for the 106km Amashova Cycle Race.

Cheryl is the owner of a women’s fitness programme, TransformHERS, where she teachers a healthy lifestyle to her clients by exercising regularly and eating healthily.
