The Jeppe SAPS is searching for a suspect in connection with an armed robbery that took place on October 10.
The incident occurred at a garage on John Page and Vickers roads.
“A 28-year-old man went to the Shell garage in Benrose to withdraw money from an ATM. As he was about to withdraw the money, he was approached by a man who stuck a firearm against his waist and instructed him to hand over the bank card,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai of the Jeppe SAPS.
The suspect asked for the victim’s pin number but the victim gave him an incorrect number. After the suspect tried to withdraw the money, he threatened to shoot the man if gave him the wrong pin number again.
“The suspect did not withdraw any money. Instead, he took the card and climbed into a white Hyundai and drove off,” said W/O Munyai. The victim reported the incident to the police. While at the police station, the victim received a message on his cellular phone informing him that R650 had been withdrawn at the Carlton Centre in central Johannesburg.
“A case of armed robbery was opened and the police are searching for him,” said W/O Munyai. Anyone who may recognise the suspect is asked to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Sanku Lairi, on 082 694 7517 or 011 624- 6066.
