Three men were arrested in Illiondale after they allegedly committed a number of street robberies in the area.
Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said one of the victims was able to get the registration number of the car used by the three men.
“The men had robbed children of their cellular phones and a woman of her handbag. A alert was sent out for the vehicle and it was later spotted in Illiondale,” said Lt Col Roberts.
When police officers searched the vehicle the three men were using, police officers found all the goods which had been stolen, as well as drugs.
“The men later pointed out where they had disposed of a firearm, which had been used during the robberies. Further investigations revealed that the registration plate of the vehicle the men were using was fake,” said Lt Col Roberts.
The men will soon take part in an identity parade to strengthen the case against them.
They men appeared in the Germiston Regional Court on Monday last week, where the case against them was postponed to a later date for further investigations to be conducted.
Lt Col Roberts urged residents to be alert at all times.
“Do not make use of quiet roads when walking,” he said.
