Resident prevents vehicle theft

When the vehicle owner was asked if he knew where his vehicle was, he said it was parked outside a property further along the road.

An alert Avenues resident may have prevented a vehicle theft on Saturday night last week.

The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said Edenvale sector police vehicles received a call from a resident concerned about suspicious activity outside his property.

“The resident saw two men park a vehicle outside his house and get into another vehicle. He immediately called his sector police vehicle,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that when officers arrived they suspected the vehicle may have been broken into and traced the vehicle owner.

“When the vehicle owner was asked if he knew where his vehicle was, he said it was parked outside a property further along the road.

“The officers informed him that the vehicle was not in fact where he had left it and someone had attempted to steal it,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He added that although it was damaged, the owner was happy to have his vehicle returned to him.

“Well done to the resident who was alert and reported suspicious activity to his sector police vehicle,” said Lt Col Roberts.
