Two men in possession of a pellet gun and a hijacked motor vehicle were arrested in the Avenues.
The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said police officers were patrolling on Saturday night last week when they noticed three occupants of a vehicle acting suspiciously.
“When officers tried to stop the vehicle, one of the occupants fled the scene,” he said.
The remaining two men were placed under observation while the vehicle they were using was searched.
“Officers discovered the vehicle had false registration plates. A pellet gun was also found inside the car,” said Lt Col Roberts.
It was later established that the vehicle was hijacked in Weirdapark, Centrurion.
“It is believed the men were scouting the area in search of an easy target and it was their intention to commit a crime in Edenvale,” said Lt Col Roberts.
When the men were profiled at the police station, it was found they both had a history of criminal activity.
Both men appeared in the Germiston Regional Court on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and for being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
