Residents urged to be vigilant

Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, the Jepe SAPS station commander, appealed to motorists to make sure their vehicles are fitted with alarm systems.

People are urged to be vigilant and park their vehicles in safer locations.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said there has been a spate of motor vehicle thefts in recent weeks.

There are at least five theft of motor vehicle cases reported a week.

Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, the Jepe SAPS station commander, appealed to motorists to make sure their vehicles are fitted with alarm systems. “Park vehicles in a safe place, not in dark areas. Make sure you lock all the doors and that windows are closed. Install gear and steering locks,” said Brig Mariemuthoo.

W/O Munyai advises people whose vehicles are stolen to report the incident immediately so that details can be circulated and other stations informed.

“In that way it is easy to recover the vehicle before the tracker system in deactivated, before the vehicle is taken too far or stripped. It is also advisable not to put valuable items on the seats or where they are visible to avoid theft of out motor vehicles,” said W/O Munyai.
