Armed robber jailed

An armed robber was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment on February 14.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said police officers received information about a crime in the Mangolongolo Informal Settlement on May 26, 2013.

“On arrival they found that the community had apprehended a suspect who was in possession of a firearm. The victim alleged that he was on his way to work and was approached by the suspect who robbed him of a cellular phone and shot him in the leg,” said Const Mashakane.

The man was arrested and the firearm confiscated.

The victim was taken to hospital.
