JMPD tackles vagrants
The EXPRESS previously reported that brazen vagrants refuse to leave some Queen Street, Kensington, businesses alone. They pose a security threat to people and are also accused of breaking into businesses and damaging property.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) in conjunction with the Cleveland SAPS, will conduct operations to address vagrants and windscreen washer problems.
The EXPRESS previously reported that brazen vagrants refuse to leave some Queen Street, Kensington, businesses alone. They pose a security threat to people and are also accused of breaking into businesses and damaging property.
It was also reported that some vagrants were threatening to assault and rape women while others were intimidating people.
Sergeant Marius Boolsen, from the JMPD, said officers continue to keep pressure on vagrants, some of whom are windscreen washers who operate at intersections.
He said those who are apprehended will be taken to the police station for profiling to determine if they are wanted for any crimes.
JMPD officers also addressed vagrants in other areas such as Bruma. “We also removed a shack in the open space at the corner of 10th and 11th Avenue in Kensington. There is a problem in Malvern. The man living in a shack on 17th Street was issued a warning. He did not move. We will remove the shack if he continues to stay there,” said Sgt Boolsen.
