Several suspects were arrested last week for attempted house burglary by the Cleveland SAPS.
Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a St Frusquin Street, Malvern, resident alleged he locked his door and closed all windows before leaving his house on March 7.
“When he returned, he found three unknown men in his yard. He approached them and asked them what they are doing on his property. They said they were looking for a room to rent. The victim noticed a screwdriver on the floor and sensed something was wrong,” said Const Mashakane.
Police officers were passing the property at the time. The victim stopped the officers and the suspects were arrested after implements used to break into properties were found.
Const Mashakane said the following day, on March 8, police officers were alerted by Kensington residents about two suspects who were trying to break into a house in Patrol Street.
“The police officers responded to the complaint and on arrival, they saw two suspects pushing a trolley on the street. They tried to flee the scene when they saw the police. Police officers gave chase and apprehended the suspects, aged 24 and 28,” said Const Mashakane.
Implements used to break into houses were found in the trolley.
