Mukwevho leads sector
“When the community is united towards the same goal, it makes it easier to approach matters which need urgent attention and those which affect them most,” said Const Mukwevho.
Constable Kenneth Mukwevho is the new Sector 3 manager at the Yeoville SAPS.
The 32-year-old took over the responsibilities since November last year.
He replaces Constable Esrom Phala, who has since moved to another unit at the station. Const Mukwevho has been an officer for about nine years. He said he looks forward to working together with members of the community in the fight against crime.
“When the community is united towards the same goal, it makes it easier to approach matters which need urgent attention and those which affect them most,” said Const Mukwevho.
He added that the attendance of meetings will be crucial in getting the community to unite and work together. “It starts with knowing your neighbour. When you know your neighbour you get to know what happens around you. When there are problems, one can communicate what has been seen or heard,” said Const Mukwevho.
He also highlighted that in Observatory, access is not restricted. “Anybody can just walk through the boom gates. We need to ensure we know everyone who walks through. Screening is important in avoiding crimes such as house robbery,” said Const Mukwevho.
He urged members of the community to report any suspicious activity they may see.
On the issue of prostitution in the area, he said the fight continues.
“We will continue to remove prostitutes from the streets; prostitution is illegal, though we cannot do much in court if we do not catch them in the act,” said Const Mukwevho.
He said their presence in the area could have a relationship with crime in the area. “Loitering is a problem we have to deal with on a daily basis. People cannot just stand around,” said Const Mukwevho.
