City’s performance declines – Gossmann

The Bruma Residents’ Association believes the March statistics regarding city services paints a dismal picture with regards to performance.
Ms Valda Gossmann, from the association, said the City of Johannesburg’s (CoJ) performance rating for Bruma declined from 10 percent in January to 8.5 percent in February.
The statistics are drawn from the number of problems reported by the association and addressed by the relevant departments.
“The star performers for February were the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the building control department and City Power. City Parks went from ‘hero to zero’. The other departments just did not accomplish anything, hence the zero performance rating.
“When you analyse the statistics, it paints a dismal picture with regards to the performance of the city,” said Ms Gossmann.
She said City Parks robbed residents of their summer in the park. “The last time City Parks did a proper job was in November 2013. They attempted to cut the grass three months later. Sad to say, but nothing has improved. Their one and only, or this is what I was led to believe, tractor broke down. The management of City Parks should take time out and walk through Hans Pirow Park in Bruma. They will then understand what we are talking about,” said Ms Gossmann.
She said the Joburg Roads Agency (JRA) staff were found sleeping on the job. “This was in full view of the public. Photographs of the sleeping JRA staff were sent to the management of JRA. This behaviour and attitude correlates with the dismal performance of the JRA,” said Ms Gossmann.
She said members of the association met with the JMPD last month and true to their word, they were more visible in the area. “It certainly makes a difference. Let us hope that the JMPD will maintain this performance,” said Ms Gossmann.
