Replica painting unveiled at Saheti

Mrs Senekal was commissioned in April 2013 to undertake the project as a tribute from past pupils and friends to Mrs Anastasia Krystallidis.

Saheti School unveiled a replica painting of Raphael’s, The School of Athens, at the school.

The artwork was painted by Saheti’s Head of Art and Director of Culturals, Mrs Maretha Senekal.

Mrs Senekal was commissioned in April 2013 to undertake the project as a tribute from past pupils and friends to Mrs Anastasia Krystallidis, a past Executive Head who for 39 years dedicated her service to Saheti School. Mrs Krystallidis retired at the end of 2013.

The work illustrates truth acquired through reason. It depicts the greatest mathematicians, philosophers and scientists of classical and Renaissance times sharing their ideas and learning together under one roof.

Mrs Senekal’s replica is oil on canvas measuring 210cm by 350cm and took over 360 hours to complete. After unveiling the piece, Mrs Krystallidis explained that it is of particular relevance to Saheti, as it symbolises what the school strives to achieve by producing individuals who can make significant contributions to society.
