Couple celebrates 50th anniversary milestone
The couple were married in Pretoria in 1964. They have a family of four children, two sons and two daughters. They also have four grandchildren; three boys and a girl.
Residents of Rand Aid Association’s Inyoni Creek retirement village, Mr Ben and Ms Thelma Matthee, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, April 4.
While most marriages do not make it past the five year mark, Mr Matthee said his marriage was not always a bed of roses.
“The dream soon becomes a reality and it is only through sheer hard work, sacrifice, patience, adaptability, tolerance, faith and communication that a relationship can work for so long,” he said.

Mr Matthee worked for the Automobile Association as the general manager of their publications division for just over 36 years, before retiring.
Mrs Matthee worked as a secretary until she decided to stay at home to be with the children, affectionately known as the Tribe of Benjamin.
Now happily retired, Mr Matthee is involved with various projects and his wife makes cards and serves on the functions committee at Inyoni.
