Paddlers ready for competition

During the first week of May, several junior paddlers will take part in the South African Inter-School Sprint Competition.

The event will be held on the Stompdrift Dam in the Eastern Cape.

Some of the junior paddlers in the training programme for Gauteng hail from schools in Bedfordview and Edenvale, and practice at the Germiston Lake Canoe Club.

The Gauteng Schools League has overseen a number of training sprint races, including 200 meter, 500 meter and 1 000 meter events.

Age appropriate long distance races including 2 000 meter and 5 000 meter races were also organised during April in preparation for the event.
