Six motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday night last week.
Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts said for the most part motorists were well behaved.
“We found that many of the motorists knew their alcohol limits and others made use of a designated driver,” he said.
While many motorists knew where to draw the line, others seem confused over laws surrounding alcohol and motor vehicles.
“No one in a motor vehicle is allowed to consume alcohol. If a passenger in a vehicle is caught drinking alcohol they can be charged with drinking in public,” said Lt Col Roberts.
He added that under previous laws it was permissible for vehicle passengers to drink.
“The laws have since changed. Vehicle drivers and passengers must take note that drinking in public is an arrestable offence,” he said.
