Resident wants water leak fixed
Joburg Water relies on residents to log complaints through its call centre and it is not always possible for teams to know of certain problems.
This was stated by Ms Millicent Kawbe from Joburg Water after an enquiry relating to a water leak was sent to her.
Mr Jackie Naicker, a resident of Beelaerts Street in Troyeville, said water has been leaking from a manhole for at least five months.
He said he contacted Joburg Water to report the problem however he was unable to speak to anyone.
“I had to wait for an operator. No one answered the phone and I was unable to speak to anyone. I did not obtain a reference number. This is clean water that is wasted daily. It is also attracting vagrants who have a bath and wash their clothes there,” he said.
According to Ms Kabwe, the leak was reported when the EXPRESS brought it to her attention. It was to be attended to on Thursday. At the time of going to print, the EXPRESS was unable to confirm if it was fixed.
“We ultimately rely on residents to log complaints through our call centre. In most cases this is followed,” said Ms Kabwe.
She added that some residents do not log complaints because they either turn a blind eye or they tell themselves someone else will report the matter.
“The city is vast and it is not always possible for our teams to know of certain problems until it is reported. Hence we have a 24-hour call centre to assist in this regard,” she said.
