Update: Ceiling collapses at Karaglen SuperSpar

"One of our regular customers was injured when the ceiling collapsed. We are following up on his progress," Mr Karamichael told the NEWS.

Three people sustained injuries when a portion of the ceiling inside the Karaglen SuperSpar in Edenvale collapsed yesterday.

Last night, management from Karaglen SuperSpar confirmed that the collapse was not structural.

In a statement released on the store’s Facebook page, Mr Harry Karamichael thanked paramedics from Emer-G-Med, emergency services personnel from the Edenvale Fire Department, Chaplain Vaughn Grantham and officers and management from the Edenvale SAPS for their assistance.

“One of our regular customers was injured when the ceiling collapsed. We are following up on his progress and wish him all the best for his recovery,” said Mr Karamichael.

Several teams worked throughout the night to clear the damage and by this morning, May 16, an engineer approved the store for trade.

“We have been given the go ahead to resume business. The collapse of a portion of the ceiling did not compromise the integrity of the store’s structure,” said Mr Karamichael.
