The Bedfordview SAPS arrested a man for the possession of a stolen vehicle on May 4.
The arrest was made after a security guard was checking outgoing vehicles at a shopping complex.
A man approached the guard in a Nissan Primera, attempting to leave the premises.
The security guard noticed that wires were hanging out of the ignition and asked the driver to turn the car off and back on.
According to the security guard, the driver turned off the vehicle, acted like he placed a key into the ignition with his right hand, while fiddling with wires to turn the vehicle back on with his left hand.
The security guard then checked the engine and VIN number. He found that they were tampered with.
The guard alerted the police who came to the scene and questioned the driver.
The driver was arrested after he could not give a satisfactory explanation.
The suspect has already appeared in the Germiston Court and the case was postponed.
