New classrooms for Jeppe Prep

There was jubilation, praises and pride last week during a site handover ceremony at Jeppe High Preparatory School.

“Education is the foundation upon which we build our future” – Christine Gregoire.

This quotation was referred to during the ceremony as something Jeppe High Preparatory School staff believe in.

To continue providing a high standard of education, a decision was taken to extend the school buildings.

After immense planning and paperwork, the “ground-breaking ceremony” was finally held on Wednesday.

During her address, Mrs Cynthia Nash, the school principal said, “More than 100 years ago there was a small building here named Jeppe High Preparatory School. It became small because a lot of children wanted to come here. In 1972 a new building went up to cater for more children. I started working here the same year. Years later, the buildings became too small again. We used the hall, school foyer and other parts of the school to teach. Today, we announce that we will be building three new classes where we are sitting,” she said.

Children and staff clapped and celebrated, knowing the difference the new building will make to their time at school. The new premises will reduce the amount of children per class and give them much needed room, resulting in manageable sizes for teachers.

Mrs Nash thanked everyone involved for their input and help.

“We planned for a long time with several people involved. I thought it would be simple and quick to build new classrooms, but the experts told me that is not how it works. Thanks to everyone. Jeppe Prep is committed to providing quality education. We will have a lot more space to achieve our goals,” she said.

Mrs Nash added that new rules will be put in place to ensure children are safe during construction.

Several children told the EXPRESS they are glad to be part of the positive changes taking place at the school and cannot wait for the new classrooms.
