The Zamokuhle outreach programme gave elderly people a chance for some morning exercise and other activities.

Auxiliary social worker, Ms Makgati Legodi at Rand Aid Association’s Thembalami Care Centre, put participants in the Zamokuhle outreach programme through an early-morning exercise session on Wednesday, May 28.

The Lombardy East care centre started the outreach programme in 2009. The programme focuses on giving elderly people from nearby areas the chance to enjoy the company of their peers.

The residents are taught a variety of hand crafts, like knitting and crocheting, enjoy morning tea and lunch, and benefiting from health and social awareness initiatives.

Residents who wish to donate materials for arts and craft activities, including wool, paint, beads, glue, paper and crayons, can contact Ms Lara Hurwitz at Thembalami on 011 882-4434.

Residents can also donate tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cake and biscuits to the centre.
