Brave elderly dog recovering

Brutus the Brave is on the long road to recovery.

When staff at the Edenvale SPCA arrived at work on Wednesday last week they did not expect to be greeted by an abandoned elderly dog.

An old male Boerboel, later named Brutus the Brave, was tied to an electrical pole outside the organisation’s property in Sebenza.

It is not known how long he had been there or who dropped him off.

“He is old, thin and has several sores on his limbs,” said the manageress of the Edenvale SPCA, Ms Dennise Beatie.

The wire which bound the Brutus to the pole was untied and the animal lead to the kennels.

“He was hungry and ate everything we game him,” said Ms Beatie.

“There is no excuse for this. There are two numbers on the gate to phone in case of an emergency. Those who cannot call can always hoot as the staff live on the property,” she added.

“He does not deserve this,” said Ms Beatie.

On Thursday the Edenvale SPCA reported that it had received an overwhelming response from the community with regards to the dog.

The organisation assured it supporters that everything possible would be done to keep Brutus comfortable and well fed so that he could recover from his current condition.

On Friday, Brutus was strong enough to visit a parlour for some gentle grooming.
