Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said the man was in the guard room on June 7 at about 10pm when he heard people shouting outside.
“He heard them saying open the gate and he kept quiet. They fired one shot at the guard room and the security guard fearing for his life opened the gate. Four suspects entered the school premises,” said Const Mashakane.
The men took the guard’s cellular phone, tied him up and covered his head and face with a hat.
The guard managed to untie himself at about 3am and went to look for help.
“The SAPS was called and it was discovered that computers, a television and monitor were taken,” said Const Mashakane.
Anyone with information regarding the stolen goods or suspects should call 10111.
Ms Phumla Sekhonyane, the Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, said, “The department is aware of this unfortunate incident that took place. The school has a permanent security guard, an electric fence and alarm systems linked to armed response. A case of robbery and theft has been opened at the Cleveland SAPS.”
