Residents urged to report sex workers
The Yeoville SAPS has urged residents to help deal with the problem of sex workers operating in the precinct.

This followed an enquiry from the EXPRESS to the Yeoville SAPS, after a journalist was approached by one of the sex-workers in Observatory recently.
“We can find a lodge nearby, it is only R100,” said the sex worker. The journalist declined the offer and went about his duties.
Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS, said arresting sex workers is a waste of state resources, unless the sex worker is caught in the act.
“We have been engaging residents for help in this regard. We are unable to arrest sex workers without having something to charge them on. We cannot even charge them for loitering because we will not be able to determine their intent,” said Const Malatji.
He urged residents to call the police when they see any suspicious activity. The issue of sex-workers has been discussed in detail at a number of Yeoville Community Police Forum (YCPF) Sector 3 meetings. At the last meeting held at the Observatory Golf Club on May 15, Constable Kenneth Mukwevho, who manages sector 3, said there was an unmarked police vehicle operating in the Observatory area to try and curb the problem of sex-workers. @JoburgJourno
