Bedfordview pupil scoops Miss SA Youth title

The presenters on the day were Dominique Rensleigh, Mr SA Photogenic 2006, and Wayne Schreuder, an up-and-coming comedian.

Tanielle Da Silva (12), a pupil at Bedfordview Primary was crowned Miss South Africa Youth for the 12 to 15 year old category on Youth Day.

The Mr and Miss South Africa Youth pageant was held at the Lombardy Boutique Hotel in Pretoria East on Monday, June 16.

Candidates entered from as far as Limpopo to the North West Province and a great family atmosphere was enjoyed by everyone.

The presenters on the day were Dominique Rensleigh, Mr SA Photogenic 2006, and Wayne Schreuder, an up-and-coming comedian.

The contestants competed in three categories, interview, South African outfit and pageant. The individual interviews with the contestants were crucial in the judging process for the event, as Miss SA Youth is a working title for the winners, second and third runners up of every age group, where personality and passion are the driving factor.

Dominique, the owner of the pageant and chairperson of the Dobela Benefit Fund (NPO) said, “It was crucial that we started role models and leaders from our youth so as to address the issues our youth are facing in today’s crucial times.”

He said the vision of the competition and title is to make a difference in youngsters and help, educate and equip them for life.

“You will see the top performers of Mr and Miss SA Youth helping to educate our youth on things like drug abuse, peer-pressure, suicide, bullying, teen pregnancy and abortion so as to help create a better future for them.”

During her reign, Tanielle will work with the pageant owners to make a difference in the youth within her community.

“I’m proud to be the new Miss South Africa Youth. I am looking forward to a year in which I grow as an individual through the work I will be doing to uplift the youth, along with my fellow winners in the other age groups,” said Tanielle.
