Limpopo FC edge out Denver’s Ayoba
Limpopo FC walked away 3-2 winners during their match against Denver’s Ayoba FC at a game played at the Rhodes Park Sports Grounds on Sunday, June 8.
Both teams were a bit slow to find their rhythm, with early attacking moves resulting in good defending from the teams. After sizing each other out, the game was more open and free-flowing. Ayoba FC were the first to get on the score board, with a goal that came against the run of play, during a dead-ball situation. The goal seemed to have rattled the Limpopo FC team, who began to string together a number of good passes. They were duly rewarded through a goal that came from a defender, showing the strikers how it should be done. The score was one-all at half time.
In the second half, both teams displayed a renewed sense of urgency and making a number of substitutions. Ayoba FC were able to restore their lead through a goal scored after some good inter-play to make the score 2-1. Limpopo FC made more changes, bringing in a new energy. From there on, the attacking was one sided as the Limpopo FC players spent more time in the opposition half, sensing a goal. The pressure seemed to pay off as they were rewarded for their efforts. As a result of a cross from some good wing play, a Limpopo player headed home, levelling matters. The Limpopo FC players spent a lot of time in the opposition half, sensing they could still salvage a win from the game. It was in the dying minutes of the game that a goal was scored by a substitute, who showed composure in front of goal to slot the ball into the back of the net to give Limpopo FC the narrow victory of 3-2.
