Pupils visit elderly residents
The theme of the visit was 'Acknowledging our elders' and high tea was served to the ladies.
Pupils from Ferreira Primary School marked Youth Month by visiting the Gerald Fitzpatrick Home (GFH) for the aged on June 17.
The theme of the visit was ‘Acknowledging our elders’ and high tea was served to the ladies.
Mrs Vivienne Abrahams-Aliveriotis, the founder of Art with heART Africa, emphasized the value of elders.
“They bring wisdom, respect, morality, faith, courage, family values, love and pieces of history to our future generations,” said Mrs Abrahams-Aliveriotis.
The pupils opened the programme by singing the national anthem and and various songs with the accompaniment of Ms Suné Engelbrecht, a voice trainer and Ms Vee, an emerging artist.
Mrs Abrahams-Aliveriotis read two poems from Maya Angelou and the pupils sat with the ladies from the home and had a chance to interact with the elderly residents about their past experiences.
The ladies had a chance to write an African Paper Prayer For Peace for the women in Brazil. This was part of the Art with heART Africa initiative to spread peace.
“It was an enjoyable and enriching day for both generations. We would like to acknowledge Spar and Makro for their support and interest in community events” said Mrs Abrahams-Aliveriotis.
